Can Essential Oils Help You Sleep?

On average humans spend approximately one-third of their life sleeping. While a natural latex mattress can help you make the most of those resting hours, here at Nature’s Embrace we know there is much more to sleep than simply buying a latex mattress online. A lot goes into building a strong sleep routine, and everyone will have their own schedule and preferences. That said, in recent years, there has been a growing excitement around the potential of essential oils to help with sleep and anxiety and stress relief. An organic latex mattress in Canada will certainly help with your comfort, but check out essential oils if your sleep issues are more severe than simply an old mattress.

What are essential oils?

In short, essential oils are made from naturally occurring plant compounds and have been used for centuries for a wide variety of medicinal and spiritual purposes in addition to cooking and perfumes. In the modern world, homeopathic providers have recognized the healing and calming powers of essential oils in the world of aromatherapy.

How can essential oils help with sleep?

Poor sleep is often tied to stress, anxiety, and challenges in relaxation. Thankfully, essential oils can target all of these things! The right kinds of essential oils can reduce anxiety and help promote relaxation – ultimately leading to an easier time falling asleep. Further, essential oils also act as mild sedatives which can help reduce tension, combat depression, and slowly ease troubled sleepers into dreamland.

How do you use essential oils?

Generally speaking, there are three main ways to consume essential oils. Using a diffuser and inhaling essential oils is the most common. You can simply put a few drops into a diffuser and let the small molecules get dispersed through the air for you to inhale.

No diffuser? No problem! Many people also apply essential oils to their skin. This allows the body to absorb some of the molecules through the skin’s surface while also releasing the aroma into the air. If you do plan to apply essential oils to your skin, be sure to dilute them with a carrier oil as essential oils are highly concentrated.

Finally, you can also ingest essential oils using food or drinks as the carrier. Before ingesting your oils, seek advice from your medical professional as everyone will react differently. Inhalation and application to the skin are much safer means of consumption.

Which essential oil is best for sleep?

Everyone will react to essential oils differently, and oils that work very well for one person may not work as well for another. Thankfully, there are a wide variety of oils that have been proven to promote stress relief and relaxation. Some of the most popular essential oils for sleep aid include:

  • Ylang Ylang
  • Lavender
  • Marjoram
  • Chamomile
  • Frankincense
  • Cedarwood

While our professional staff is here to help you choose the best natural latex mattress in Canada, we also realize that sleep is so much more involved than buying a latex mattress - even one as great as ours. Small things like essential oils can do wonders when it comes to eliminating stress and anxiety and promoting sleep.
