    Organic Dunlop

In the shadows of the Western Ghats lies one of history's most important agricultural hubs, the famous spice garden of Kerala. Intermingling among fields of cardamon, pepper, and turmeric are forests of Hevea brasiliensis, otherwise known as the rubber tree. Farming in the Kottayam district of Kerala is a family tradition carried out on plots of land passed down through generations. This innate connection to the land and rich biodiversity results in a rubber unmatched in its provenance and elasticity. Harnessing the remarkable power of natural elasticity is the bedrock upon which the best latex mattress makers form their craft.

    Hybrid Coil

Our pocket coil system with Caliber™ Edge and EcoBase™ foundation offers durable support with precision comfort. Each coil is individually wrapped to minimize motion transfer and contour to your body. At the same time, the reinforced Caliber Edge provides strong perimeter support for sitting or sleeping right up to the edge. The EcoBase adds a stable, environmentally conscious foundation made from recycled materials, enhancing overall durability and longevity. This combination provides a balanced feel that accommodates all sleeping positions. Integrated into our customizable mattress designs, the coil unit pairs seamlessly with latex layers and supports our layer exchange program for lasting flexibility.

    Modular Design

At Nature's Embrace, we’ve spent decades perfecting an intricate yet simple-to-use modular mattress system that showcases the natural elasticity of latex. Why is that so important? Elasticity is the unique mechanism that gives Organic Dunlop Latex the resiliency to make it both comfortable and supportive. Forward-thinking mattress makers blend various densities and thicknesses to craft diverse comfort choices that cater to various sleeping styles and body types. These progressive mattress systems are the specialized realm of top-tier experts and are not typically found in major
retail chains or less sophisticated outlets. We recommend this style for everyone but those looking for the firmest mattress options.

    Modern Comfort

Our cotton and wool top-zippered cover combines natural breathability with ease of customization. The organic cotton is soft and durable, while the wool layer offers natural temperature regulation and moisture-wicking properties for year-round comfort. The convenient top-zip design allows easy access to the mattress core, making it simple to adjust or replace latex layers as your comfort needs evolve. This design is central to our layer exchange program, letting you fine-tune firmness levels over time without replacing your entire mattress. It's a practical, sustainable solution that extends mattress life and supports your body’s changing needs.

    FAQ

Our hybrid latex mattress combines the natural comfort of latex with the deep support of an individually wrapped pocketed coil system. The latex layer(s) offer responsive contouring and pressure relief, while the coil base adds bounce, airflow, and durability. Our designs blend the best of both worlds: the resilience of natural latex with the comfort of traditional spring mattresses. We use at least 2" of latex in our hybrids, but some hybrids contain less than an inch. Although that saves money in the short term, it's fundamentally more expensive as you don't receive any of the benefits of latex that way. Hybrid latex models are ideal for those who want the enhanced support and comfort of latex in a more traditional mattress setup.

Your sleeping position plays a key role in choosing the right latex mattress. Side sleepers often prefer Soft to Medium-Firm mattresses for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. Back sleepers benefit from medium to firm support that promotes spinal alignment. Stomach sleepers need firmer surfaces to prevent lower back sagging. Combination sleepers should consider customizable or zoned latex mattresses for balanced support across all positions.

Dunlop latex is denser and firmer, ideal for support layers or those who prefer a more supportive feel. Talalay latex is lighter and airier—making it great for plush comfort layers. Although both can be made with natural materials, it's far more common for 100% Natural latex to be made from the Dunlop process and synthetic blends to be made from the Talalay process. The only commercially available GOLS certified organic products are made using the Dunlop process. Most of our mattresses are made with Dunlop latex, but we also offer Natural Talalay for those looking for added softness.

Yes, latex has a natural aroma. This scent is non-toxic and usually dissipates within a few days to a few weeks, depending on ventilation and a person's sensitivity to smell. In rare cases, those with very strong sensitivities may always notice a slight odour. However, it’s very different from the strong chemical off-gassing you may experience with synthetic foams. Many people even find the natural latex smell neutral or even pleasant. If you’re sensitive to scents, we can air the components in our factory upon request. This process takes 2-3 weeks.

Latex mattresses perform best on a rigid, breathable surface. We recommend slatted platform beds with slats 1-2.5" apart (no more than 3") or a solid base with ventilation. As a general rule, there should be more support than air, and you should avoid box springs and bowed / flexible slats, which can cause uneven support. Coir Bunkie Boards can bring nearly any bed frame up to the warranty and performance standard.

We cover the internal layers to protect the latex from damage and oxidation. Latex is naturally grippy and delicate to the touch, so enclosing each layer in a protective fabric reduces wear during setup, adjustment, or transport. More importantly, double-covering everything helps reduce the effects of air and light, which slowly break down the latex over time, greatly increasing the lifespan of your mattress.

No, the cotton and wool mattress cover is not machine washable. Our quilted covers are made from pure organic cotton and untreated, natural wool, which can shrink or become misshapen if exposed to water or agitation. We recommend spot cleaning only. Gently dab the affected area and allow it to air dry completely. Do not soak, machine wash, or tumble dry. Some people may choose to use mattress protectors or mattress pads for easier cleaning. However, that have a plasticized backing that reduces air flow and firms up the mattress.
