    Double Comfort

Two layers of Talalay latex create a soft, buoyant comfort system that gently contours to the body while maintaining a light, responsive feel. Known for its plush pressure relief and airy structure, Talalay is especially well-suited for lighter sleepers who don’t compress firmer materials as deeply. This dual-layer design enhances cushioning at the surface, reducing pressure points around shoulders and hips while keeping the sleep experience elevated and breathable. The result is a balanced, weightless feel that adds comfort without heaviness—ideal for those seeking a softer, more adaptive top layer.

    Modular Design

At Nature's Embrace, we’ve spent decades perfecting an intricate yet simple-to-use modular mattress system that showcases the natural elasticity of latex. Why is that so important? Elasticity is the unique mechanism that gives latex rubber the resiliency to make it both comfortable and supportive. Forward-thinking mattress makers blend various densities and thicknesses to craft diverse comfort choices that cater to various sleeping styles and body types. These progressive mattress systems are the specialized realm of top-tier experts and are not typically found in major retail chains or less sophisticated outlets. We recommend this style for everyone but those looking for the firmest mattress options.

    FAQ

A vegan mattress is made without any animal-derived materials such as wool or silk. At Nature’s Embrace, our vegan mattresses use Bamboo or Tencel fabrics instead of Cotton, as Cotton must be combined with a fire retardant, and wool is the only natural fire barrier. These mattresses offer the same comfort, support, and breathability as our standard models while aligning with vegan lifestyle values. They are perfect for anyone seeking an animal-free mattress without compromising on quality, safety or sustainability.

Your sleeping position plays a key role in choosing the right latex mattress. Side sleepers often prefer Soft to Medium-Firm mattresses for pressure relief at the shoulders and hips. Back sleepers benefit from medium to firm support that promotes spinal alignment. Stomach sleepers need firmer surfaces to prevent lower back sagging. Combination sleepers should consider customizable or zoned latex mattresses for balanced support across all positions.

Dunlop latex is denser and firmer, ideal for support layers or those who prefer a more supportive feel. Talalay latex is lighter and airier—making it great for plush comfort layers. Although both can be made with natural materials, it's far more common for 100% Natural latex to be made from the Dunlop process and synthetic blends to be made from the Talalay process. The only commercially available GOLS certified organic products are made using the Dunlop process. Most of our mattresses are made with Dunlop latex, but we also offer Original and Natural Talalay for those looking for added softness.

Learn More: What is the Best Type of Latex?

The difference lies in the latex composition and performance profile. The Talalay process was originally developed to optimize the consistent physical properties of synthetic latex. Original Talalay uses a blended formula—approximately 70% synthetic and 30% natural latex—which enhances consistency, softness, and long-term durability. Natural Talalay is a newer innovation made without synthetic latex, offering a purer and more eco-conscious alternative. This formulation also affects feel: Original Talalay is slightly softer and more uniform, while Natural Talalay is firmer and more responsive. Both are still softer than organic Dunlop latex with the same ILD.

Yes, latex has a natural aroma. This scent is non-toxic and usually dissipates within a few days to a few weeks, depending on ventilation and a person's sensitivity to smell. In rare cases, those with very strong sensitivities may always notice a slight odour. However, it’s very different from the strong chemical off-gassing you may experience with synthetic foams. Many people even find the natural latex smell neutral or even pleasant. If you’re sensitive to scents, we can air the components in our factory upon request. This process takes 2-3 weeks.

Latex mattresses perform best on a rigid, breathable surface. We recommend slatted platform beds with slats 1-2.5" apart (no more than 3") or a solid base with ventilation. As a general rule, there should be more support than air, and you should avoid box springs and bowed / flexible slats, which can cause uneven support. Coir Bunkie Boards can bring nearly any bed frame up to the warranty and performance standard.

We cover the internal layers to protect the latex from damage and oxidation. Latex is naturally grippy and delicate to the touch, so enclosing each layer in a protective fabric reduces wear during setup, adjustment, or transport. More importantly, double-covering everything helps reduce the effects of air and light, which slowly break down the latex over time, greatly increasing the lifespan of your mattress.

No, the cotton and wool mattress cover is not machine washable. Our quilted covers are made from pure organic cotton and untreated, natural wool, which can shrink or become misshapen if exposed to water or agitation. We recommend spot cleaning only. Gently dab the affected area and allow it to air dry completely. Do not soak, machine wash, or tumble dry. Some people may choose to use mattress protectors or mattress pads for easier cleaning. However, that have a plasticized backing that reduces air flow and firms up the mattress.
