Finding the Best Pillow: Memory Foam vs Latex

When it comes to pillows, there are today a variety of alternatives to the traditional feather pillows that your parents have likely slept on their entire lives. While many people opt for pillows made out of memory foam, at Nature's Embrace we offer latex pillows and latex mattresses in Vancouver that we believe provide a far better alternative.

Memory foam is made out of temperature-sensitive polyurethane, which changes shape in response to body heat. Latex is made out of the sap of rubber trees. Both have unique characteristics which can make for a different sleeping experience.

Memory Foam and Latex Pillows Compared

Memory foam pillows can provide fairly good support by moulding to the shape of your head and neck. However, the created mould can then make it more difficult to move and change your sleeping position. Latex pillows can also conform in shape, but they are more buoyant, springing back to their original shape once pressure is removed and allowing you to comfortably shift around.

Another problem with memory foam pillows is that they can slowly release potentially toxic chemicals over time. These chemicals can cause headaches, respiratory problems, and itchy eyes. Organic latex pillows and mattresses in Vancouver contain no toxic chemicals and, furthermore, are completely hypoallergenic. Latex is naturally anti-fungal and anti-microbial, with no need for any added chemicals.

If a comfortable pillow is what you are after, then pillow temperature plays a significant role. Memory foam pillows can become too hot as they trap your body heat while you sleep. Latex pillows are able to stay cool because they are made to be breathable.

Finally, latex pillows are significantly more durable than pillows made of memory foam. The polyurethane material which makes up memory foam quickly degrades, making it less durable than most other pillow options.

Pair Your Pillow with a Latex Mattress

All of the benefits of a latex pillow are equally as true of organic latex mattresses in Vancouver. A latex mattress will provide you with superior comfort and support, and won't get too hot while you are sleeping. Latex mattresses are also motion isolating, letting you and your partner sleep comfortably side-by-side without ever disturbing each other's sleep.

Just like a latex pillow, a latex mattress is hypoallergenic and won't harbour any allergens or dangerous microbes. Purchasing a latex mattress in the Vancouver area is also a great investment, as it can last you up to 30 years.
