Why Wool

Wool - Mountains and sheep

Our Wool

At Nature’s Embrace, we take great pride in the exceptional quality of our mattresses and bedding products. That’s why we only utilize wool of superlative pedigree for crafting our PureEmbrace wool covers, which blends crossbred wool fibres to create batting of incredible loft, volume and springiness.

Natural Performance

We use Joma Wool® natural wool fibres as our batting. Shorn from sheep that freely roam New Zealand’s picturesque farmlands, Joma Wool® is distinguished by its inherent bounce, body and support. The result is excellent loft and comfort, which translate to restful sleep that will, in turn, improve your health and well-being in the long term.

Joma Wool® is produced through a special crimping process that increases the frequency of the bends or waves along the length of the wool fibres to provide 40-50 percent more volume and improved resilience in the face of continuous use. New Zealand sheep are well known for having the whitest, strongest and cleanest wool, so by sourcing our natural wool fibres from these sheep, we are able to create bedding products that deliver best-of-breed comfort and support night after night.

Benefits of Wool

Certifiably Safe
All our wool is certified under the OEKO-TEX Standard 100. As the worldwide leader in harmful substance testing, OEKO-TEX certification ensures all our wool is safe to sleep on night after night. The certification covers pesticides, chlorinated phenols, heavy metals, formaldehyde and hundreds of other known and potentially harmful substances. It even ensures the wool has a balanced pH level for optimal skin health.

Insulating
Wool is a natural climate control system for your sleep environment. When you’re cold, wool traps warm air escaping from your body and circulates it around you. When you need to cool down, wool traps the water vapour accumulating on your skin and slowly evaporates it away. This dynamic action helps you remain in the optimal temperature range for a deep, restorative REM sleep.

Fire Resistant
All jurisdictions have mattress regulations regarding mattress flammability. Regulations vary per jurisdiction, but the one thing that remains constant is the need for fire retardants to legally sell a mattress. Fortunately, years of tests have show wool to be amongst the safest bedding materials for flame resistance.

Dust Mite Resistant
Dust mites need moisture to survive. Wool has microscopic pores that regulate humidity, making it unfavourable for the growth and breeding of dust mites.

Anti-Microbial
On the exterior of each wool fibre resides a layer of yellowish wax called lanolin. Lanolin is a natural disinfectant that provides a protective anti-microbial coating which inhibits the growth of microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi.

Biodegradable
Wool is a biodegradable fibre composed mostly of keratin. Keratin is the same structural protein that makes up human skin, nails and hair.
